Our Timeline

The only constant is change, and OutLawed India has certainly changed and evolved over the years! Here is what our journey has looked like:

Our first cohort of Nyaaya Mitras graduated! We began building justice tech to support their work in communities across Bengaluru.

For our Safe Schools Project, our volunteers nation-wide conducted POCSO compliance surveys in their local schools - our results were published in the Print. We registered as a Section 8 not-for-profit company! 🎉

We joined an MoU with the Department of Women and Child Development, Delhi, where we trained 600 Anganwadi workers on legal issues affecting women and children.

OutLawed India started out of a hostel room in National Law School of India University. Our law student volunteers began taking legal awareness workshops in schools, universities, labour camps and rotary clubs across India!

Abhishek is a social impact practitioner with over a decade of experience working alongside founders, senior leaders, and institutions in the civil society space to bring clarity, momentum, and purpose to their work.

Dr. Sarayu is the Founder of Aapti Institute. She has a background in management consulting, venture investing, program development and management, and academic research.

Dr. Aarti Shyamsunder is an independent organizational psychologist. Prior to this, she worked in Accenture's Leadership and Culture practice, leading their client-facing DEI work from a content, thought leadership and solution design perspective.

Sinchana, a second year law student at Christ University, after her field work with Nyaaya Mitras from the Garment Labour Union, has started a research paper on how trade unions can support victims of sexual harassment at the workplace.

Varsha Kodancha is a second year law student at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, passionate about research, advocacy, and exploring the intersections of law, technology, and social justice.

Sunidhi Das is a third year law student at National Law School of India University, Bangalore. Their interests include criminal law and anti-discrimination law, with a focus on how law reinforces caste and queerphobic structures.
